Museum of the Moon
ArtHouse Jersey is inviting Islanders to experience the wonder of the Moon this autumn as it brings internationally acclaimed artist Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon to Jersey as part of the Butterfield Public Art Series.
From Sunday 15 to Sunday 29 November, the spectacular six-metre illuminated artwork will be suspended inside St Helier Methodist Centre, transforming the familiar space and inviting visitors to experience the Moon from an entirely new perspective. The installation will be free to visit, with no booking required, offering everyone in Jersey the opportunity to experience this spectacular artwork.
Featuring highly detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface, Museum of the Moon combines light and a specially created soundscape to offer visitors a new perspective on Earth’s closest celestial neighbour. The artwork has been presented more than 350 times in over 40 countries, appearing everywhere from London’s Natural History Museum and Glastonbury Festival to the Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Alongside the artwork itself, Moon will feature a varied programme of events and creative experiences, offering Islanders different ways to gather beneath the Moon throughout its two-week stay. Further details of the programme will be announced in the coming weeks.
The arrival of Moon follows the success of Jerram’s Floating Earth, which attracted more than 31,000 visitors during its presentation in Jersey. It also builds on ArtHouse Jersey’s experience of bringing major public artworks to the Island, including Bubbletecture and Kaarina Kaikkonen’s Dancing Together, creating opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience art together.
Everyone is welcome to spend time beneath the Moon’s gentle glow, take a moment to pause and enjoy this extraordinary artwork, completely free of charge and no booking required:
