Mettle: A powerful tribute to courage and survival
Award-winning solo performer Nicholas Collett returns to the Jersey Opera House on Saturday 18 October with his new production, Mettle – a moving and deeply personal story of courage, endurance, and remembrance.
Following acclaimed performances of Spitfire Solo, Oysters, and Your Bard, Collett now turns his creative lens on his own family history, recounting his father’s extraordinary service during the Atlantic Convoys of World War Two.
Directed by Gavin Robertson, Mettle is both an epic journey and an intimate reflection.
The production takes audiences from Sheffield to Liverpool, Nova Scotia to Boston, across the storm-lashed Atlantic and on to West Africa – tracing the resilience of those who faced relentless U-boat attacks, isolation, and the fury of the sea.
Combining physical theatre, evocative storytelling, 1940s music, and a rich soundscape, Collett delivers an unforgettable solo performance that honours the generation who served, those who were lost, and those who lived to tell their story.
Presented in association with The Daparian Foundation, an organisation supporting veterans and emergency service personnel living with trauma, Mettle resonates as both art and act of remembrance.
An informal Q&A with Nicholas Collett will follow in the Café Bar.
