Summer Holiday Art Club – Week 4

The Harbour Gallery Jersey is heading into the fourth and final week of its programme of children’s art workshops during the summer holidays.

Week four takes place from Monday 10 to Friday 14 August, with morning sessions from 10am to noon and afternoon sessions from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

The programme includes activities for children from around age six up to 13, although the age range varies between workshops. Parents may attend with younger children where indicated.

On Monday morning, Jo Alm and Bastiman will lead a workshop making bug fridge magnets for children aged six and over. The afternoon session will involve making a wire and bead dragonfly and is suitable for children aged eight and over.

Tuesday morning’s workshop, led by illustrator Jamie Willow, is the final opportunity to take part in the comic book session. Children will develop a story idea, design characters and create a comic book panel page.

On Tuesday afternoon, Jo Alm and Bastiman will lead a messy art session using paint, glue and salt painting for children aged six and over.

Jamie Willow returns on Wednesday morning for a summer landscape collage workshop using colourful papers, textures and mixed media techniques.

Wednesday afternoon introduces new tutor Naomi Renouf, who will lead a ‘Rip and Wrap’ workshop. Children will create a yarn-wrapped articulated shark or ocean-themed textile hanging using provided materials.

On Thursday morning, Sophia Morgan will lead a weaving workshop where children can make colourful friendship bracelets and small wall hangings using simple looms or sticks. The session is suitable for children from age six with an accompanying adult, up to age 12.

Sophia Morgan will also run a new air-dry clay workshop on Thursday afternoon, giving children the chance to create a miniature world featuring animals, houses, trees or fantasy creatures. The session is suitable for children aged five with an accompanying adult, up to age 12.

Friday morning’s workshop, with Jo Alm and Bastiman, will involve collaging scallop shells with decorative papers. There will be no afternoon workshop because of the Battle of Flowers.

A few places remain available across the week, including limited availability for Naomi Renouf’s Wednesday afternoon workshop.

Sessions cost £20, including materials. Each child will also receive a pack of drawing pencils and a sketchbook. Children who attended St Helier Primary School can book sessions for £10, supported by the Bosdet Foundation.

Parents are asked to bring children to the workspace, collect them from the same location and complete a registration form before the session. The gallery recommends arriving 10 minutes early. Suitable clothing should be worn, as acrylic paint may be used.
