Get your book published in 2023 workshop

Two successful Jersey authors are holding a workshop to help other island writers get published. After repeated requests for advice, Amazon bestselling author Gwyn Garfield-Bennett, and Deborah Carr are to hold the one-day event on Saturday February 25th, 2023.

The workshop will help writers decide if self-publishing is right for them, take them through the pros and cons of the various publishing options, and give practical knowledge to get started in indie publishing, or pursue more traditional deals.

Leading the workshop will be Gwyn Garfield-Bennett who has self-published 13 novels and recently signed a 12 book publishing deal. She has spoken at major writing festivals on the topic of self-publishing. “The advent of digital publishing means that anyone can now publish a book, but doing it professionally is key. Most books that get published on Amazon, never sell more than just a few copies. Even if you want to get a traditional deal, publishers expect you to do some marketing yourself so it’s important that writers understand which option is best for them and how to make an impact.”

Sharing her experience of working with traditional publishers and agents will be USA Today bestselling novelist, Deborah Carr who publishes historical fiction with Harper Collins. Deborah also writes romance novels with Boldwood Books and has self-published several novels.

Due to writing commitments, this will be the only workshop offered in 2023. Tickets are limited to ensure attendees get the most out of the session.

The workshop is aimed at writers of fiction or non-fiction, who aren’t sure where to start with getting their book published.

What will be covered:

  • What publishing option is right for you? Self-publishing, digital first publishing, traditional publishing? And do you need an agent?
  • How do you self-publish and where?
  • Does it cost to self-publish? How much money will I make?
  • How do you make sure your books sell?
  • What are the pros and cons of working with a publisher and an agent and how do you get one?

Attendees will go away with a practical checklist to help launch their book successfully.

The workshop will be led by Gwyn Garfield-Bennett. Gwyn is a Jersey writer who has indie published 13 novels, and just signed a 12 book publishing deal. Her first novel reached the Amazon Top 20 best seller list. She also has diplomas in digital marketing and PR. Gwyn writes crime fiction as Gwyn GB as well as women’s fiction under her own name. She has spent most of her career as a journalist in both UK national TV and in Jersey TV and print.

Gwyn has spoken on self-publishing at major writing festivals and has often been asked to hold a practical workshop in Jersey. Due to her writing commitments this will be a one-off workshop in 2023 and numbers will be strictly limited to enable participants to get the most out of the session.

Guest appearance with USA Today bestselling novelist, Deborah Carr, who is also a Jersey writer. Deborah publishes historical fiction with Harper Collins, romance with Boldwood Books, and has also self published some of her novels. Deborah will share her experiences of working with an agent and traditional publisher and give her tips for success.
