Durrell was delighted to watch golfers tee off at this year’s Go Wild Golf Day, following the huge success of the event’s relaunch in 2019 and the continued support of Rathbone Investment Management International.
On Friday 23rd October, 16 teams of four played at La Moye Golf Club and, together, helped to raise a fantastic £13,000 for Durrell’s work to recover the Atlantic Forest in Brazil, one of the richest and most diverse habitats on the planet, home to severely threatened species such as the black lion tamarin.
The Trust was once again delighted to have Rathbones on board as the event sponsor. Alan Martin, Investment Director of Rathbones, said: “Durrell’s work, both here in Jersey and across the world, is extremely important. Last year, we were thrilled to help the charity re-establish this brilliant golfing event, and we are pleased to be able to continue our support in 2021, to ensure the Go Wild Golf Day stays a firm fixture on the fundraising and sporting calendar”.
Dr Lesley Dickie, Chief Executive of Durrell, added: “We are delighted that our Go Wild Golf Day was a success once again, and we are so grateful to Rathbones for their generous support, which allowed us to hold this event despite the challenges of this year. I would like to thank all the players who took part in the event. Here at Durrell, we are so appreciative of the incredible funds raised, which will support our vital work restoring the Atlantic Forest in Brazil and the precious animals that call it home”.
This year’s Go Wild Golf Day was won by a team from Hawksford named ‘Meet the Putters’, captained by Simon Page, who will hold on to the coveted trophy until next year’s event on Friday 11th June 2021. In second place was Affinity, captained by David Stearn, and in third place was Rathbones, captained by Alan Martin.
Due to event restrictions this year, the lunch was held across two venues, La Moye Golf Club and the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club, with inspiring talks from Durrell’s CEO, Dr Lesley Dickie, and Durrell’s Head of Mammals, Dominic Wormell, successfully streamed for all to watch.
