Dozens of children in Guernsey get extra Christmas presents thanks to island stockbroker

Forty Guernsey teenagers are getting an extra Christmas present after stockbroker and investment management firm Ravenscroft made a donation to Children and Family Community Services.

Each year, youngsters living in low income households receive gifts from a number of local initiatives but teenagers are often outside of the age limits.

Sherry Summers, family support worker at Children and Family Community Services, said: “Islanders are incredibly generous and initiatives such as the Tree of Joy and Island FM’s Toy Appeal make a real difference to low income families who struggle to provide presents for youngsters. But we know that teenagers living within those households can miss out and so we want to try and make Christmas as special as we can.”

“Ravenscroft’s kindness means that 40 teenagers will now receive a voucher from HMV or New Look which I know they will enjoy spending. We were overwhelmed when they agreed to provide 40 vouchers which is a generous donation, more than we had anticipated.”

Ravenscroft’s group managing director, Mark Bousfield, said: “We have supported Island FM’s Christmas Toy Appeal for a number of years and know the impact that it has on families who find this time of year financially very hard. When we heard that there were older children who miss out, we wanted to help and are grateful to Children and Family Community Services for their assistance.”
