Deloitte’s Charity Challenge Raises £13,000

This year the Deloitte Jersey office has raised over £13,000 in total for Mind Jersey, the mental health charity, by holding various fundraising events and taking on a number of charity challenges.

This autumn, three keen Deloitte cyclists, Francis Joven, Mariska Hartkamp, and Paul De Louche, got on their bikes to take part in the famously tough Ride Across Britain (RAB). The ‘end-to-end’ ride saw them pass through 23 counties starting from Land’s End and finishing at John O’Groats.

Another budding adventurer, Rachel Leck, joined the team of climbers who took on Mount Kilimanjaro for their charity challenge.

Collectively these intrepid adventurers, together with matched funding from Deloitte, raised over £5,500.00, which equates to helping 85 individuals, part of Deloitte’s One Million Futures initiative.

In addition the Jersey office Deloitte was tasked with raising £2,586.00 for the charity over a seven-week period, and they surpassed this reaching a total of £2,988.26.

Throughout the seven weeks, the office has held various fundraisers including an international food event, which ran on World Mental Health Day on 10 October.

Further to raising these much-needed funds, employees have taken part in impact days amounting to 31 hours of volunteer time.

During these days the Deloitte teams cleared the garden of a Jersey Mind residential property and helped organise the autumn stock of the charity’s shop.

Sarah Sandiford, Associate Director at Deloitte Jersey, commented: “The work that Mind Jersey does for the island is invaluable and supporting the charity in that is really important to us.

“Our One Million Futures initiative aims to help one million people in Britain get to where they want to be; whether it’s in the classroom, the workplace or the boardroom. We are only mid-way through a three-year partnership agreement with Mind Jersey as part of this initiative.

“I am incredibly proud of my colleagues for the great feats that they have gone to fundraising for the charity. Everyone in the office has done their bit from taking part in the world cuisine event to cycling the length of Great Britain.”

James Le Feuvre, Executive Director of Mind Jersey, concluded: “We are very grateful to the Deloitte team for the funds that they’ve raised, but also for the hands-on support they have provided.

“These much-needed funds will be used to support our anti-stigma campaign, which is focused on increasing awareness and acceptance surrounding mental health issues. We will be concentrating on promoting wellbeing in young people during the year ahead,  and this additional funding will make all the difference in helping us achieve this goal.”
