This year ten school leavers and university graduates have started client work with Deloitte in Jersey as they commence three and four-year training contracts with the firm.

The new trainees represent a broad range of backgrounds and academic specialisms, from Biochemistry and English to Art History and Law.

The Jersey trainees include three local school leavers who will be joining Deloitte’s ‘earn-while-you-learn apprenticeship’ – the Brightstart programme. Melanie Anderson and Sarah De La Haye both studied at Jersey College for Girls, with Shelly Abreu joining them from Hautlieu School.

They are joined by local graduate Alex Bryant, who read Biochemistry at Bristol University, following an education at Hautlieu School.

A further six trainees are relocating to Jersey from the UK: Emily Munz, who read Chemistry at Nottingham-Trent University; Arabella Triggs, who read Law at the University of Southampton; George Walker, who has a degree in History from Oxford University and Luke Bromage-Henry, who studied Art History and English at the University of Exeter.

Joining the tax department are graduates Callum Kyle, who studied International Business at the University of Liverpool; and Mairtin Tucker, with a degree in Law from the University of Newcastle and studied for a Masters in Law at Leeds University.

Siobhan Durcan, Jersey student recruitment lead, comments: “The high standard of applicants, and the variety of educational backgrounds reflects Deloitte’s approach to recruitment and the different training routes which are available.

“Each of our programmes can flex as they progress, according to meet their needs and we have a supportive environment to help them succeed. We are delighted to welcome such a talented group and are excited to see them develop and grow over the coming months and years.”

All trainees complete a month of office and college-based learning to give them the essential knowledge and skills they need. This initial training course ensures that the students settle into the business and build strong relationships with their mentors, appraisers and buddies before commencing client work.

“The Channel Islands offers a diverse and challenging career path, and we have the training and support in place to give our people the best possible start to their career with Deloitte and welcome our newest young recruits,” says John Clacy, Partner in charge of Deloitte in the Channel Islands.
