The team at Deloitte in Guernsey aims to walk the Val de Terres, George Road and Havelet circuit for 24 hours to raise money for its Five Million Futures charity Grow.

The Deloitte 24-hour Val Des Terres Challenge will start at 9am on Saturday 20th January and end at 9am on Sunday 21st January.

The aim is to raise money and complete as many laps as possible to see how many times the walkers can climb the equivalent of K2 – known as the ‘savage mountain’. Each lap is 1.6km and has 77m of elevation, with a total of 112 laps being the equivalent of the total height of K2 (8611m).

Team members can complete as many laps as they’d like at any point throughout the 24-hour window, ranging from a couple of laps, a couple of hours or the whole 24 hours. It can be done in one slot or multiple during the 24-hour window.

The Deloitte Val de Terres challenge

Deloitte Guernsey supports Grow as part of its Five Million Futures initiative, a wider Deloitte strategy which aims to help five million people overcome barriers to education and employment so they can achieve their full potential. The money will allow Grow to purchase a number of items following the opening of their new facilities.

Karen Blanchford, CEO at Grow, said: “We’re extremely grateful to Deloitte for supporting us through this event. All profits will be hugely beneficial for us to support the training programmes for adults with learning disabilities and will help our new site immensely.

“We can’t wait to support everyone taking part in the challenge, and we hope that some of the GROW staff and Crew will be taking part this year too.”

David Becker, Partner at Deloitte, said: “Last year we took part in a similar challenge where 26 people from the Guernsey team completed 173 laps. We raised nearly £1,000 and collectively walked 300km over 58 hours which included 13,500m of elevation.

“I found it to be a very social event and I’m looking forward to taking part again. It’s great that the team can do as little or as much as they want, making it fun and accessible for anyone.

“This year I aim to keep going for the full 24 hours, and I’m hoping we get some strong numbers in the Deloitte team. The event is for a great cause, and we’re always excited to help Grow where we can.”
