The Guernsey Primary School Delivery programme, run by the Guernsey Football Association (GFA) and sponsored by Deloitte Guernsey, resumes this September as children return to school and the new football season begins.

The GFA have also announced that thanks to securing a grant from the FA Innovation Fund, they will now be able to extend their community programme to secondary schools, with after school and lunchtime clubs launching for teenagers who want to play football in a more relaxed way and individuals who do not necessarily play for particular football clubs on the island.

Deloitte Guernsey have supported the GFA for over 14 years and is GFA’s community partner and a long-term supporter of the Deloitte Corbet Cup and Shield, both of which will resume this week. The financial services firm also sponsor the GFA Youth Council which is a vehicle for a group of young volunteers to help provide recommendations for the ongoing improvement of youth football in Guernsey.

Gary Roberts, Chief Executive Officer of the GFA, said: “Deloitte’s support of the GFA is hugely appreciated. It is due to this support that we can continue our primary school football delivery programme, a scheme which gives local school children the opportunity to engage in football. This partnership enables the football development staff to deliver sessions in all Guernsey primary schools for children in years five and six.”

Football remains the largest participation and spectator sport on the island. The GFA is responsible for providing the support structure that enables players, volunteers, coaches and referees to develop individually or as part of a club or league.

“We are delighted to see the resumption of the primary school delivery programme and the GFA Youth Council, as both hugely benefit the young people in the Island to become more active and healthier,” comments David Becker, from Deloitte. “We’re thrilled the GFA have also been able to extend their community programme, we are looking forward to another season of great football.”
