Medical Specialist Group (MSG) have suffered a cyber security incident involving their email system.
Following a cyber incident involving the MSG email system, Jon Buckland, chief executive, has made the following statement:
“We are currently investigating a cyber incident involving our MSG email system. Since Wednesday 8th December we have become aware that a number of patients and other external contacts have received emails purporting to be from the MSG. These have tended to be a forwarded email from an earlier genuine communication.
“If anyone receives such an email purporting to be from the MSG, please delete it immediately and do not click on any links within the email. If you’re unsure, please email your normal [MSG] contact on a new email thread to check.
“We have implemented a series of containment measures and have appointed external cyber security specialists to investigate what happened.
“Although the forensic investigation is still ongoing, early indicators suggest that the incident targeted our email system as opposed to our Patient Record management system, which is completely separate and cannot be accessed via our email system.
“We apologise to anyone who has received one of these spoof emails and can reassure you that we are doing everything possible to minimise the impact of this incident.”
Channel Eye will update you on this story as MSG’s investigations continue.
