Young and aspiring Guernsey sailors will now be kept warm and dry in local waters courtesy of a donation from Condor Ferries.

The Condor Community Fund has provided the Guernsey Sailing Trust with £1,500 for the purchase of 15 waterproof coastal sailing jackets which are to be used by children from ages six to 16 who take sailing courses with the Trust, including those in wheelchairs.

Tracy Peters, Condor’s Community Officer, said: “As a ferry company we have a naturalaffinity with the sea and are very pleased to be able to support the Guernsey Sailing Trustand their efforts to teach local children how to sail.”

Guernsey Sailing Trust’s General Manager, Sarah Creasey, explained, “We seeapproximately 2,000 school children every year, the vast majority of whom are sailing for the very first time. The jackets donated by Condor will be predominately used on our Hawk 20 keelboats and ensure we can keep the youngsters properly equipped for the sea, so we aremost grateful.”

Condor’s Community Fund was established earlier this year and is designed to supportIslanders who give up their time to develop community activities. The Fund saw 83 applications from across the Islands with a focus on sustainability, local benefit and enjoyment for others.
