Monday 13th May sees the start of Dementia Awareness Week and the launch of an exciting new creative collaboration to introduce interactive and eye-catching brain health messages in the town centre.
The campaign is called Boost Your Brain and aims to spread awareness of the simple habits we can all adopt to help reduce our risk of dementia: Love your heart, Stay Sharp and Keep Connected.
Dementia Jersey have teamed up with SignTech, Snap, Le Masurier, Arthouse Jersey and the Parish of St Helier Town team to produce brain-boosting artwork which will cover 30 metres of hoarding in Broad Street. The street will be temporarily re-named Memory Lane and local retailers are showing their support with branded window stickers.
The artwork, designed by Snap and printed by Signtech, focuses on the three ways you can reduce your risk of dementia:
- Love your heart – Eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly and manage stress.
- Stay Sharp – Challenge your brain, do hobbies you love and get enough sleep.
- Keep Connected – Stay in touch with friends and family and take part in a club or group.
There is also an interactive family-friendly activity called the Big Brain Challenge (24th May – 23rd June) which is a round-the-island scavenger hunt that will have participants scanning brain QR codes, solving clues, and learning about brain health along the way. Not only will they gain valuable knowledge and have some fun, but also have the chance to win an iPad, generously donated by JT.
Claudine Snape (pictured), CEO Dementia Jersey said: “We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have such creative partners who spotted this opportunity to put our campaign in the spotlight and in doing so bring vibrancy and energy to Broad Street. We hope visitors to Memory Lane will enjoy reading about how they can reduce their risk of dementia and take part in our Big Brain Challenge.”
Broad Street will feature the artwork from Monday 13 May to the end of June, when the Big Brain Challenge finishes.
