Corporate purpose, the value of social responsibility and the role of PR professionals will be debated at this year’s flagship event for the communications industry.
The Channel Islands group of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) has secured four off-island speakers, including Lord Dr Hastings of Scarisbrick CBE, Global Head of Citizenship at KPMG International, for its annual forum on 12 September.
“The success of business is no longer simply measured by its size and profitability, they need to consider their role in and impact on their local community and the wider world. As communication, marketing and PR professionals, we are often involved in a business’ reputation and its social responsibility, we believe it is one of the most topical subjects facing business and our community today which is why we have chosen it as the theme of this year’s Forum,” said chairman of the Channel Islands group of the CIPR William Church.
“The Forum has built a reputation over the years of debating issues which our members and the industry are dealing with on a daily basis. We are delighted to have secured such experienced and inspirational speakers.”
The Forum is open to all, and the organisers believe this year’s topic will have resonance with those who work in the communications industry, in-house marketing teams, people responsible for corporate community programmes, HR and internal communications professionals.
Lord Hastings will open the afternoon with a talk about purposeful profit, asking why sustainability and CSR matter, and what they mean for businesses who want to succeed now and in the future.
CIPR president Emma Leech will also be talking and will look at the role of the communications professional and the role of CSR in building and maintaining a positive reputation.
The other speakers are Richard Donovan, Global Head of Social Innovation & UK&I Head of Corporate Responsibility at Experian who will talk about the topic on a large scale and Advita Patel, Founder of the Comms Hive, the Chair of CIPR Inside and an internal communications specialist, who will focus on what CSR means for employees and how to overcome internal apathy.
The event, which takes place at Guernsey’s Digital Greenhouse on Thursday 12 September, will run from 12.15pm until 5pm to allow Jersey delegates to travel to and from Guernsey in one day. It is worth 10 CPD points for CIPR members.
An early bird rate of £90 for CIPR members and £117 for non-members is available until 20 August. Delegates also have the option of joining the speakers for dinner after the Forum. Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite.
