People travelling from the Channel Islands to the UK will be exempt from new requirements to self-isolate for 14 days.
As announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson this week, all international arrivals to the UK must self-isolate in their accommodation for 14 days on arrival in order to limit further transmission of Covid-19.
However, the restrictions will not apply to journeys to the UK from within the Common Travel Area, which includes the Channel Islands.
It does not appear that Jersey and Guernsey are expected to reciprocate the exemption. Anyone arriving in either island currently must self-isolate for a fortnight regardless of where they have travelled from.
‘There is no intention at this time to make any changes to the requirement for anyone travelling into the Bailiwick of Guernsey to self-isolate for 14 days regardless of symptoms or port of origin,’ said a spokesperson for Guernsey’s government.
At a press conference last week, Jersey’s Chief Minister maintained that there was ‘no change’ to the island’s travel restrictions.
