Charity’s Herm trip brings over 100 smiles

More than 100 children were treated to a trip to Herm by the Smile for Georgie Foundation which was launched in 2018 and provides acts of kindness to bring smiles to people’s faces.

The summer evening started with the children, who were aged five to eleven, and their parents/guardians enjoying a meal at the Mermaid Tavern. They were entertained by Island FM’s Mark Trenchard, break-dancer Dave Hyett, face painter Joni Nettleship and Daniel the Donkey.

All of the children were given either a bright yellow or black Smile for Georgie cap, which were sponsored by Guernsey Self Store.

After their meal, the party made its way to Shell Beach where they danced and played games. A few brave children went for a swim in the sea, before heading back to the Mermaid Tavern for a well-earned ice cream before boarding the boat, which was subsidised by Travel Trident. All the children received a party bag at the end of the evening and, once back in Guernsey, C T Plus provided a bus to take those who required transport home.

Andre Le Prevost, Georgie’s father, said: “Everyone had a great evening and it is events like this that are the reason we created the charity. We have had some wonderful support and the children have gone home to bed with happy thoughts.”

The Smile for Georgie Foundation would like to thank all the islanders who generously contributed towards this event and has confirmed that plans for Herm 2020 are already coming together.
