Tickets for the 2022 Christmas Lottery are now on sale, with a guaranteed first prize starting at £300,000 which will rise as sales increase.
The £2 tickets will include lots of instant win smaller pay-outs, as well as the chance to scoop one of more than 60 prizes in the big draw on Tuesday 20 December.
The instant win prizes range from £2 to £5,000, while the main draw will feature the bumper jackpot plus a further 65 prizes from £500 to £50,000.
All Guernsey proceeds from the lottery are distributed to local charities by the Social Investment Fund, and it has raised millions for good causes in recent years.
Senior Lottery Officer, Jon Taylor said: “The proceeds from every game sold throughout the year raises funds for good causes. However traditionally the Christmas has always been the big one, and the one that seems to bring a real buzz for islanders. That is probably because it is a chance to win a life changing amount of money.
“In terms of format, it is a challenge to balance all the different elements that islanders want to see in the Christmas draw. Some would like a larger Jackpot, while others prefer to have more smaller prizes in the instant win game and in the main draw itself. We think we have got the balance about right.
“Ultimately, the aim is to generate funds for worthy causes. I believe the Christmas Lottery still offers excellent value ,” said Mr Taylor.
In 2021 the first prize reached £630,852. If all 1.2 million tickets are sold the top prize will be as big this year. In the last four years, the jackpot prize has been won by Guernsey tickets.
Cassandra Fish, head of lottery for Guernsey Post, the main distribution agent in Guernsey, said: “We’re delighted to support the distribution of this year’s Christmas lottery that raises funds for so many good causes throughout the Bailiwick.
“We will be distributing Christmas lottery tickets to shops and businesses throughout Guernsey and provide support to anyone looking to purchase tickets for a syndicate – you can simply call Guernsey Post for more information.
“We saw more winning prizes go to syndicates last year. Certainly, more than expected and if this trend continues in 2022 maybe we’ll have another group of syndicate winners picking up the top prize again.”
The 2022 Christmas Lottery draw will take place in Guernsey this year on ITV Channel News on Tuesday 20 December from 6.00pm.
As well as the main lottery, a separate advent calendar scratch card game will have a top prize of £25,000, and more than 27,000 winning tickets in total.
Anyone wishing to buy tickets on behalf of a syndicate can contact the CI Lottery team at Guernsey Post, Envoy House on 01481 711720, or CI Christmas Lottery agent Lorraine Ellis on 07781 108714 or by email
