The 2021 Christmas Lottery is released on Monday 4th October.
This year’s ticket price stays at £2 and the first prize is guaranteed at £300,000 but will rise as tickets are sold. The instant part of the ticket will include more smaller prizes and there are a further 65 drawn prizes ranging from £500 to £50,000.
All proceeds from the Christmas Lottery are distributed to local charities by the Social Investment Fund and £millions have been raised for good causes over recent years.
Senior Lottery Officer, Jon Taylor said: “The Christmas Lottery is the crown jewel of the Channel Island Lottery games and although all the proceeds from every game in the portfolio raises funds for good causes, Christmas seems to resonate most with islanders and that’s probably because there is a chance to win a life changing amount of money with this game.”
In recent years the first prize has reached upwards and sometimes over £1million pounds and Mr Taylor confirmed that if all 1.2million tickets are sold the top prize will reach £805,000. The last four first prize winners have all been Guernsey tickets and the distribution agent Guernsey Post is hoping for the same again.
Head of Lottery for Guernsey Post, Ciara Devlin said: “We are proud to be able to distribute the Christmas game to our reseller network and it would be fantastic if we can keep the momentum going and have another Guernsey ticket winning the first prize.
“We saw more syndicates purchasing tickets last year. Certainly more than expected and if this trend continues in 2021 maybe we’ll have another group of syndicate winners picking up the top prize again. The most important thing to remember though is the funds raised go to so many worthy causes throughout the Bailiwick and we ask all our players to play responsibly.”
The 2021 Christmas Lottery draw will take place in Jersey this year live on ITV Channel News on Thursday 23rd December from 6.00pm and Jon is confident sales will result in another successful year.
“Reverting back to a £2 ticket certainly encouraged Islanders to buy in volume last year and we hope this continues in 2021. It’s difficult balancing the needs of everyone but we believe we now have the right approach. A mix of a large top prize guaranteed at £300,000 but with the potential to rise towards £805,000, many secondary drawn prizes, a larger amount of instant prizes and a ticket price at just £2,” said Jon.
CI Christmas Lottery tickets are on sale throughout the Channel Islands from Monday 4th Oct 2021.
