Jersey islanders are being encouraged to join a parade in St Helier later this week to congratulate University College Jersey (UCJ) students on their graduation.

A joint graduation ceremony is being held on Friday 8th October in Howard Davis Park for the class of 2020 and 2021.

At 2.30pm, more than 300 people, representing 166 graduates, will leave Howard Davis Park and travel along Colomberie and King Street before finishing in the Royal Square.

This year, students are graduating in subjects that include business and management, psychology with criminology, civil engineering, construction management and childhood studies.

The Minister for Education, Senator Scott Wickenden, said: “We’re extremely proud of the achievements of students attending University College Jersey. Over the past few years, more courses have been offered by UCJ, all of which are tailored to fill skill gaps in the Island. This not only helps us grow our own talent but also to give Islanders the opportunity to study in Jersey for a qualification that will help them in their chosen career.

“I would like to congratulate our graduates on their success and wish them the very best for the future.”

The Principal of Highlands College, Jo Terry-Marchant, said: “The UCJ Graduation Ceremony is always a major event in the College’s calendar and is a wonderful way to recognise and celebrate the academic excellence achieved by our hard-working graduates.

“In addition, it also provides an opportunity to reflect on the partnerships with employers and families who support our students to achieve outstanding results, and also the positive impact that UCJ has on the social and economic wellbeing of Jersey.

“I would like to encourage anyone in the area on Friday to join our celebrations by parading with us through town.”

The ceremony is supported by MasonBreese, a project management firm that not only sponsors the degree courses but has also gone on to employ graduates of UCJ.
