Carey Olsen partner to cycle 1500km for charity

Carey Olsen Jersey partner Peter German is to embark on a 1,500 km cycle from London to Cannes next month in support of children’s charity Coram.

The Legal & General Real Assets Cycle challenge, organised by Club Peloton, will take place over six days ahead of the start of MIPIM, Europe’s largest real estate conference, on 12 March. It is the second year in a row that Peter has taken part in the charity cycle, which in 2018 raised more than £725,000 for Coram – one  of the UK’s first children’s charities.

Founded by philanthropist Captain Thomas Coram in 1739 to provide care for abandoned children left dying on London’s streets, Coram has continued its support for vulnerable children ever since and now helps more than one million children and young people every year.

Peter said there were a number of reasons why he was eager to take on the challenge again.

“I have sought out physical challenges and adventures in the past, so riding a bicycle from London to the south of France appealed from that perspective. However, the main reason is the fact the ride raises money for Coram as its principal charitable beneficiary,” said Peter.

“Coram helps vulnerable children, children who have not had a great start in life, children that need a loving family to foster or adopt them, or just a safe place to live. I have two small boys who have everything they need and I challenge anyone to look at Coram’s work and not be touched by their 280 years of work for children and young people in need.”

Having taken part last year, Peter knows what is in store and is in the process of building up his fitness ahead of getting to the start line in London on 7 March.

“I think the hardest part of the event is the fatigue. We are up early and on the road by 6am for six days on the trot and we won’t be finished until 8pm or 9pm each night, so there’s not a lot of time to rest, recover and refuel, or even clean your chain!”

Peter is aiming to raise £4,000 in individual sponsorship for this year’s event. To help Peter reach his fundraising goal, please visit his sponsorship page. All donations are very gratefully received.
