Carers survey launched to explore caring issues in Jersey

Further to the development of Carers Jersey 3-year Action Plan and a recent briefing offered to all States Members, Carers Jersey have teamed up with Enable Jersey to develop a ‘Dare to Care’ survey for all people in Jersey caring for a friend or family member at home.

Anyone caring for someone is invited to complete this survey to help us present the government with a factual view of issues local carers face across the island. Carers Jersey and Enable will then present the finding of the survey to the Government which will take place on Thursday 12th January at the next Government Update meeting, taking place between 8.30 and 10.30am at St Paul’s Centre.

Carers Jersey Corporate partner, Le Masurier have very generously offered the chance for participants in the survey to win a fantastic respite package or tech package for young carers if that is what they would prefer. All participants names will be anonymously entered into a lucky draw hat.

Brian McCarthy, Managing Director, Le Masurier explained: “This survey is so important we felt it really deserved some support to encourage as many busy carers as possible to find time to take part in this survey to collate a true picture of the situation for Carers in Jersey.

“We know how desperately needed respite is so hope this, teamed with our ongoing support of Recharger Day and the Dare to Care Campaign helps in some small way to support the vital work of Carers Jersey.”

The deadline for completion will be the end October 2022 and it is anticipated that the outcome of this will make the basis of a further briefing for States Members at the next Government update being held on Thursday 12th January 2023.

Dr Margaret Bayes MBE, co-ordinator of Carers Jersey, said: “We know from our strategic workshops carers are looking for a Carers Minister or some sort of Carer’s Champion role to be created, a Carers Hub has also been suggested which we are looking at the Library as a possibility and eventually Carers Legislation.

“Finding and collating views from carers who may not currently be in our network is vital and we hope the ‘Dare to Care’ survey will capture imaginations and lots of carers will find the time to complete and return their views and ideas.

“I must say a huge thank you to the ‘can do’ team at Enable for coordinating the survey and our wonderful corporate partner Le Masurier for offering such a super incentive for carers to find time to have their say.’

Upcoming Events for Carers:

  • Dare to Care Brunches at Holme Grown – third Monday of every month, all welcome. £7.35 a head
  • Recharger Day – 16th October, The Royal Yacht. Kindly sponsored by Le Masurier. This wonderful day provides the opportunity for around 100 members including young carers to ‘have a break’ and get together socially for a day.

The Dare to Care survey is available here to gather evidence regarding the many issues that anyone caring for a loved one faces in Jersey.
Hard copies of the survey are available by email  or at Holme Grown Farm shop.
