£10,000 has been raised for mental health support charity Guernsey Mind, by C5 Alliance from donations made in return for their legacy office equipment after C5 moved to their new office at 1 The Plaza, Admiral Park.

Along with the donation, C5 have also donated computer equipment to the local community as well as ensured all other disused equipment has been appropriately recycled ensuring nothing goes to a landfill. This forms part of C5’s on-going commitment to reducing their impact on the environment in line with their ESG strategy.

The money raised will help Guernsey Mind support the people of the Bailiwick, encouraging a positive attitude towards mental health and supporting mental wellbeing.

Jo Cottell, Chief Executive for Guernsey Mind said: “We are thrilled to receive this generous and unexpected donation from C5 Alliance which will help us to continue our work supporting the community across the Bailiwick – through our 1-1 services, workplace training and support, and our work in the community. We’ve worked with the team at C5 for several years now, as they support our IT infrastructure, and we have supported them with workplace initiatives too. Their commitment to supporting us and our colleagues in the wider third sector is really appreciated.”

Graham Clark, Facilities Manager at C5 Alliance Guernsey, and man responsible for the sale and rehoming of the office furniture and equipment, said: “The work to decommission the Turing House site required a staged approach. During the clearances, the contents of each room were separated into reusable, recyclable and waste. Once separated, anything reusable was mainly offered on social media for a charitable donation.

“Recyclable materials such as cabling, copper piping, etc. was taken to local authorised centres and exchanged for cash. Anything left over was picked up by Island Waste for processing at their plant where they have a zero-landfill policy.

“We are so pleased to have been able to have found good homes for furniture and equipment we no longer need, helping to reduce our impact on the environment while also being able to raise money for such an important charity on our Island.”

Chris Ash, Managing Director at C5 Alliance Guernsey said: “It is much easier to throw away office equipment than it is to re-home and ensure it is re-used. We are incredibly proud of the work Graham has done to ensure we reduce our impact on the environment. Not only has this had a positive impact through ensuring nothing went to waste, but it has also provided the opportunity to further support our local community by raising money for the amazing work done by Mind Guernsey.”
