BWCI Our Race for Life 2026 once again brought the Guernsey community together in a powerful show of support, remembrance and fundraising for Cancer Research UK – Guernsey Branch.

Held on Sunday 17 May, this year’s event welcomed hundreds of participants who ran, walked and supported loved ones affected by cancer, helping to raise vital funds for life-saving cancer research.

This year’s event raised more than £3,500 in Sark and over £16,000 in Guernsey, with fundraising totals continuing to grow as sponsorship money comes in.

This year also marked an exciting new chapter for the event, with BWCI Group joining as headline sponsor. BWCI are also generously doubling any sponsorship raised by BWCI employees, helping boost fundraising efforts even further.

Participants were welcomed to a refreshed race experience this year, including a brand- new route, updated signage and merchandise, all designed to improve the overall event experience and build on feedback from previous years.

Adding to the incredible atmosphere on the day was Shockwave Band, who entertained participants as they crossed the finish line – cheering runners on, handing out high fives and helping create a memorable finish-line celebration.

The event’s top fundraiser this year was Kristina Southern from Sark, who raised an incredible £1,870.17 in sponsorship.

Dani Barnett, founder and lead organiser of BWCI Our Race for Life, said: “We worked really hard this year to refresh and improve the event experience. We launched a new website, introduced a completely new route after listening to feedback from last year, and created all new signage and merchandise alongside our new sponsor, BWCI.

“While we may not have had as many participants as in previous years, the community spirit was just as strong as ever. Every year you can truly feel the love, support and encouragement around you, and that’s what makes this event so special.

“So many people stepped up to help, and we want to thank every volunteer, marshal, supporter and person who gave their time or talent to make this event another success.”

Erin Bisson , BWCI, said: “We’re incredibly proud to support BWCI Our Race for Life and to be part of an event that means so much to the local community. The atmosphere on the day was truly inspiring, with so many people coming together to support friends, family and loved ones affected by cancer.

“At BWCI, supporting our community is hugely important to us, and we’re delighted to help raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK – Guernsey. We’re especially pleased to be doubling any sponsorship raised by BWCI employees to help make an even bigger impact.”

Bryan Lean, chairman of Cancer Research UK – Guernsey, said: “We love being part of organising Our Race for Life each year and seeing the community come together to support such an important cause. Every person who takes part, volunteers or fundraises is helping make a real difference.

“We are incredibly grateful for all the money raised, which goes directly to Southampton to support life-saving cancer research, helping improve treatments, early diagnosis and outcomes for Guernsey patients both now and in the future.”
