Organisers of the Guernsey and Sark Bright Electrical Race for Life have smashed their targets for entries and funds.
This year’s event, held on 19 May, drew in more than 1,000 entrants in Guernsey and 50 in Sark, who together raised over £38,000 for Cancer Research UK – Guernsey Branch.
The annual event, which took place at KGV Guernsey, saw participants of all ages and backgrounds coming together to run, walk, and jog to raise awareness and funds to support vital research and treatments for those affected by cancer.
“We are thrilled with the turnout and the incredible amount of money raised,’ said Dani Barnett, who organisers the event with a team of supporters. !Guernsey and Sark’s generosity and spirit are truly inspiring. Every pound raised brings us one step closer to finding a cure for cancer.”
In the three years since Dani and her friends have been organising the event, the islands have raised more than £78,000 for cancer research.
More than just a race, the event gives people time to remember and celebrate those who are fighting and who have been lost to cancer.
“It was an amazing experience to see so many people come together for such an important cause,” said Karen (Bucky) Buck-Archenoul, a long-time supporter of the event. “Every step we took today was in honour of those who have battled cancer.”
The funds raised from this year’s Bright Electrical Race for Life will directly support cutting-edge cancer research projects in Southampton, providing hope and advancements in treatment for patients worldwide.
Dani added: “We cannot put in words just how grateful we are to everyone who participated, donated, and volunteered. Your support makes a real difference in the fight against cancer.”
