Bowel Cancer charity benefits from GIFA donation

The Guernsey Investment & Funds Association (GIFA) has chosen Bowel Cancer Guernsey as the beneficiary of £2,555 from their recent GIFA Dinner 2025.

The donation will support the charity as it continues to raise awareness of bowel cancer in Guernsey and supporting early detection efforts.

Bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in Guernsey, with approximately 40 to 45 new cases each year. If detected early, over 90% of those diagnosed with early-stage bowel cancer are successfully treated.

Sara Gould, Honorary Treasurer and Director of Bowel Cancer Guernsey, said: “This generous donation from GIFA will directly support our ongoing efforts. Bowel cancer can affect anyone, but with early diagnosis, many cases can be treated successfully. Every conversation, every screening and every test taken could mean another life saved.

“If you’re aged 60 to 70, you will be offered a free bowel cancer screening test. The FIT (Faecal Immunochemical Test) is simple, can be done at home, and is one of the most effective tools we have for detecting bowel cancer early. But symptoms can appear at any age, so if something doesn’t feel right, don’t wait. Speak to your doctor as soon as possible.”

Haley Camp, Chair of GIFA, said: “Bowel Cancer Guernsey plays a vital role in early detection and saving lives, and we’re proud to support their work. Our members aren’t just committed to making a meaningful difference in the community – many of us have personal stories of how cancer has touched our lives. For me, this cause is especially close to home: I lost my mum to bowel cancer in 2008. It’s incredibly meaningful to see the funds raised at our annual dinner going to such an important charity – one that may help prevent another family losing someone they love.”

Bowel cancer is often treated if caught early. For more information on symptoms, screening, and support, visit bowelcancerguernsey.org.gg.
