The cream of Jersey’s growing digital community have been celebrated at the Jersey TechAwards, organised by Digital Jersey.

Hundreds of people packed the ceremony at the Royal Yacht, hosted by author and comedian Dominic Frisby, to see which of the 93 nominees would pick up the 12 awards.

In a year where digital skills have been placed high on the agenda for Digital Jersey, with the opening of the government-backed Digital Jersey Academy, there were two Technology Student of the Year categories to reflect the increasing focus on digital careers – picked up by Ethan Double (junior) Anca Toma (senior), as well as prizes for Technology Teacher of the Year which went to Stephen McAllister, and Best Use of Technology in Education presented to Beaulieu Convent School.

Snap Design and Digital was named the overall Digital Company of the Year, a second win in a row after they picked up an award for creativity last year. Tom Hacquoil received the prestigious Digital Leader of the Year accolade.

The event was sponsored by Prosperity 24-7 and supported by BCS Jersey.

Tony Moretta, CEO of Digital Jersey, said: “The Jersey TechAwards is the night of all nights where we down tools and raise a glass to the brilliant achievements of the individuals and businesses right across our growing tech sector. The passion all our finalists show on a daily basis shone through in their nominations. The recognition our winners received during the ceremony, combined with the praise from their peers, goes to show what a thriving, innovative and creative community we have here in Jersey.”

“I hope, in the year we welcome the first students to the Digital Jersey Academy, these awards will inspire even more people to think about all the possibilities a career in the digital industries can offer them, and I look forward to those people making the nominations list in future years.”
