Channel Eye has joined forces with Royston Guest, leading Business Growth Coach and CEO/Founder of Pathways Global, in our column, ‘Ask the Business Coach’.
Presenting or public speaking is not for everyone, but it’s becoming a must-have skill, not a nice-to-have skill. When presenting or speaking in public, you need to be in the performance zone.
Three key takeaways
- Change and control your breathing.
- Don’t listen to your inner negative voice.
- Create and repeat a positive incantation.
Episode timestamps
- [1.21] Your body enters a physiological state When you are tense or nervous. This state is often referred to as the body’s ‘flight or fight’ mode; I’m getting my body ready to fight, or I’m getting my body prepared to fly/run. What happens to your breathing? Short, sharp, shallow breaths. This is not the best state to be in when you’re about to talk in public. You want to be in the performance zone, and you need to change your state. The quickest way to achieve this is by changing your breathing.
- [3.42] Don’t listen to your inner negative voice. Instead, create a positive incantation that you repeat repeatedly in your mind to counter the negative narrative.
