Channel Eye has joined forces with Royston Guest, leading Business Growth Coach and CEO/Founder of Pathways Global, in our series, ‘Ask the Business Coach’.

The pace and speed at which we are all moving today is relentless. There is no break, no respite from the daily crises coming our way. Everything seems to be a priority!

To stay on top, here are my top three tips for managing overwhelm and an ever-increasing workload.

Three key takeaways

  • Pause and breathe, as this induces a physiological change.
  • Create a prioritisation checklist.
  • Proactively manage workflows and work stacks.

Episode timestamps

  • [1.22] when you begin to feel overwhelmed or anxious, your body reacts by tensing up, and your breathing becomes faster and shallower, which prevents oxygen from entering your body. This creates a spiral effect. The most effective counterreaction is to pause and breathe, inducing a physiological change.
  • [2.50] Our list of priorities is increasing, so the key is how you prioritise them. Create a prioritisation checklist that asks critical questions to help you prioritise, such as: will it help drive growth, will it help us save money, will it add value to our clients, does it need to be done now, does it need to be done by me?
  • [5.09] As a leader, become more aware of workflows and work stacks of individuals, teams, and yourself. Challenge the priorities and determine what needs to be done. Work more collaboratively to manage these workflows through open communication among team members.
