Offshore law firm Appleby has welcomed Leona Maharaj and Damian de Klerk to the Guernsey team.
Leona (shown in the main image) is an Associate in the Corporate department. Leona was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2014, having trained and qualified at one of South Africa’s leading commercial law firms Webber Wentzel (in alliance with Linklaters), where she subsequently spent five years in the Banking and Finance team (which included a short legal secondment to Absa Bank Limited), followed by two years at another offshore firm in Jersey.
Leona’s experience is predominantly in areas of general banking and debt finance, syndicated lending, commercial property finance, acquisition and leveraged finance and related security structures acting on behalf of both borrowers and lenders.
Damian also joins the Corporate team as an Associate. Damian was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2020, having trained and qualified at one of South Africa’s leading corporate and commercial firms, Werksmans Attorneys.
Prior to joining Appleby, Damian’s expertise was predominantly in corporate and commercial areas, with a specific focus on mergers and acquisitions. Damian advises clients on a wide range of matters, having negotiated and drafted various legal agreements and documents.
