APM Channel Isles “Delivering for Durrell”

Following the inaugural Association for Project Management (APM) event in October 2019, interest from project professionals and aspiring project managers stimulated the formalisation of APM Channel Isles, with a balance of committee members in both Jersey and Guernsey.

“We were delighted at the response from Jersey based project managers for our event in October 2019 which also saw attendance from like minded professionals visiting from Guernsey,” says APM Channel Isles Chairman, Carl Ibbet.

“Team work is the heartbeat for any project, so forming a pan-island committee was a natural step which has since accelerated the progression of the branch and as a result, I am delighted to announce the ‘Delivering for Durrell’ event taking place on Tuesday 21 January 2020.”

Durrell’s newsworthy success of their ‘Go Wild Gorillas’ campaign which raised a phenomenal £1,146,500 for their state-of-the-art indoor enclosure for Jersey Zoo’s beloved gorilla family caught the attention of the national papers as well as the APM Channel Isles committee who wished to learn more about the technical delivery and challenges behind the campaign.

“Following an informative discussion with Durrell’s Fundraising Manager, Beth Gallichan, APM, learnt about how the Go Wild Gorillas project originated, the campaign objectives, the risks, the highs, and lows and the challenges of managing the project. These are a few elements which are experienced by project professional on a daily basis and therefore, we wished to host the event for all to benefit and learn from. The project profession contributes to many industry sectors such as financial services, telecommunications and the building industry, so being able to offer an insight to the public on the project support behind the conservation of wildlife is truly unique” says Carl.

The APM Channel Isles provides an opportunity for those already working in – or wishing to explore – the project profession a forum to swap stories and experiences in an environment with like-minded project professionals.  We are hoping to show those who may consider a career in projects what it’s all about and how to get into this most varied and exciting of professions,” says committee Secretary, Alex Knowelden.

The APM is the chartered body for the project profession. With over 30,000 individual members and more than 500 organisations, the APM is the largest professional body for project management in Europe.

Delivering Durrell will be held at Jersey Zoo on Tuesday 21 January 2020 from 4pm – 5.45 pm and will be free for APM Members and £10 for non-members (refreshments provided)

More information and booking for the event can be found at https://www.apm.org.uk/event/delivering-for-durrell/
