Isle of Man-based anti-food waste technology platform, Gander, is calling on people across the UK to join the fight against food waste this World Food Day.
An international day of action against hunger, this year’s event is themed ‘Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together’.
The global event, which occurs annually on October 16th, is intended to commemorate the date of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945.
Data from climate action NGO WRAP indicates that UK households and businesses waste around 9.5 million tonnes of food annually and Gander’s multi-award winning technology aims to provide retailers and consumers with a straightforward solution to tackling food waste.
Based in Freeport, Ballasalla, Gander employs 15 people across the world. Through its retail partnerships with 548 stores the platform has, to date, saved 30 million food items from becoming waste and 31,600 tons of CO2 from being emitted into the environment.
Gander’s Head of International Sales, Sanchia Newman (pictured) said: “Households and businesses across the UK generate an astronomical amount of food waste each year and this World Food Day, we are imploring people across the country to join us in our bid to tackle this once and for all.
“Gander was established in 2019 to enable retailers and consumers to help reduce food waste and since, our tech has helped to prevent millions of food items from going to waste.
“We would encourage everyone play their part in the battle against food waste so that we can grow, nourish and sustain together.”
