Aurigny wants to expand its pet travel service after success on its Southampton to Guernsey route.
Since introducing pet-friendly flying for cats and dogs in December, 20 dogs have travelled from Southampton to Guernsey and 12 dogs have travelled from Guernsey to Southampton. Pets are also permitted on the Alderney and Jersey services.
With the service growing in popularity, the Guernsey States-owned airline has announced it is now exploring the possibility of introducing pet flying on other routes.
‘One of the most encouraging things is that many owners have taken to social media to express their thanks for the level of service offered to their beloved pets. One owner wrote: “I want to say a big thank you to everyone at Aurigny in Guernsey that checked my dog in and flew her, it was a very stressful moment for me as she’d never flown before but you were all so kind and considerate that it made it a lot easier. We will be framing her little boarding pass,”’ said an Aurigny spokesperson.
The service was set up to make it easier for pet-lovers to take their dogs on holiday, in addition to transporting dogs and cats bought off island. Only one pet per flight is permitted and they must travel in a cage in the front hold.
