First Kilimanjaro now Machu Picchu as Trust Director scales new heights for charity

Justine Wilkinson, Director at Fairway Group, will trade heels for walking boots this week to help raise funds for the JSPCA.

She will take on the challenge of the world famous Inca Trail which starts in Cusco at 3399m above sea level before four days of trekking leads to sunrise over the lost city of Machu Picchu.

The weather in July varies from -2°C on the coldest mornings to 26°C on the warmest afternoons and torrential downpours are always a possibility in the Amazon rainforest.

In 2017, Justine climbed Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro, raising almost £3,500 for the Brightly charity (formerly Brig-y-Don). This year’s journey represents a different type of challenge.

Justine said: “The Inca Trail is iconic and is an amazing opportunity to follow in the footsteps of a lost civilisation.

“The Salkantay route is a demanding trek from the old capital of Cusco to the breath-taking Inca ruins passing through dense rainforest and mountain terrain en route. Whilst Kilimanjaro was one of the toughest African challenges, Machu Picchu is considered to be the mother of all South American treks.

“I enjoy pushing myself mentally and physically and Machu Picchu has been on my bucket list for some time now.  If I can raise much-needed funds for the JSPCA at the same time it is a bonus.”

Justine will be taking over Fairway Group’s CEO blog for the duration of the trip, posting updates where possible and on social media. You can donate to the JSPCA via the following link: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/justine-wilkinson2
