Ports of Jersey will be undertaking planned maintenance of its airfield with the replacement of concrete slab joint sealants on the South Apron, North Apron, Taxiway Alpha and Taxiway Bravo.

The essential works, which are scheduled to commence today and expected to take approximately 4 months to complete are being undertaken over the summer period to take advantage of the typically drier weather and longer daylight hours.  The actual work itself will involve the removal and replacement with new of existing joint sealant material, which will extend the life of the Apron for at least another 10 years.

The joint sealant replacement project will be undertaken Monday through Friday after airport closure, with work taking place during the night so as not to impact on daytime operations.   The works are likely to generate some noise due to the equipment being used such as saw cutting and road-sweeper, but the Department of Environment has been notified and noise control measures will be in place.

The works form part of critical maintenance to extend the operational life of the pavement. The works are being undertaken by an off-island specialist contractor Allied Infrastructure who have extensive knowledge of this type of work having recently undertaken work at Gatwick and Edinburgh. The company will be assisted by Jersey based contractors, Brenwal.
