Jersey firm funds kit for disability charity

People in Jersey with severe disabilities will have access to respite care at Les Amis thanks to new equipment funded by staff at facilities management firm AFM.

The Les Amis respite service has installed a standing hoist at the high dependency unit in the adult respite house after the £1,000 donation.

It will enable seven new clients to access Les Amis, and will be transferred to the Nursing and Complex Needs Unit when it is completed next year.

Les Amis’ fundraising manager said: “The new hoist will make a huge difference as we can now welcome and extend our services to more clients, whilst complying with various legislations.”

AFM managing director Mark Edgar said: “Les Amis’ respite services make a huge difference for islanders living with severe disabilities. It is crucial that they, and their families, are able to access the charity’s much-needed services.”

The company partnered with Les Amis at the beginning of this year and pledged to raise money for the charity through 2017. So far, more than £1,500 has been raised through a series of dress down days and cake sales.
