Guernsey Government’s Committee for Economic Development (ED) has elected Deputy Marc Laine as its new Vice-President (VP).
As part of several new appointments within the Committee, Deputy Laine has also been appointed as Digital/Innovation Lead while Deputy Rhona Humphreys (pictured) is appointed as Financial Services Lead.
Deputy Laine’s appointment to VP comes after the Committee’s previous VicePresident, Deputy Andrew Niles, became a member of Policy & Resources (P&R).
According to the Rules of Procedure of the States of Deliberation and their Committees, a member of P&R cannot be a member of another Committee within the States of Guernsey. Therefore Deputy Niles had to step down from his role as Vice-President of ED.
Deputy Laine, Vice-President of the Committee for Economic Development, said: “It’s a privilege to have been elected as Vice-President of ED, a Committee with a mandate that is critical to the future of the island.
“The Committee hit the ground running this political term with extensive work on going regarding the finance sector and transport links with France and the UK. I’m keen to settle in quickly and continue the great work we’ve seen so far.”
Deputy Rhona Humphreys, Financial Services Lead for the Committee for Economic Development, said: “I have already been actively involved with the Finance sector work as a Committee member and political representative on the board of Guernsey Finance so this will be a natural step for me. Delivery on the Finance Sector Strategy is one of the key priorities for the Committee this political term and I am pleased to be able to bring my professional experience and career in the financial services to help drive it forward.”
