The States of Alderney’s Policy & Finance Committee has launched an Expression of Interest (EOI) process to explore whether opportunities exist for the island to participate in, and benefit from, the growing digital infrastructure sector through the location of a data centre.
This follows the commissioning of an independent feasibility study into the potential for digital infrastructure on Alderney,
The feasibility study, undertaken by an independent company selected by States of Guernsey Procurement with extensive experience in sustainability, considered whether a data centre could realistically operate on Alderney. The study concluded that a data centre in Alderney is not only feasible, but could be economically transformational for the island.
The purpose of the EOI is to gauge market interest and better understand the range of potential approaches available to the States of Alderney. It is intended to identify opportunities that could support economic diversification, attract inward investment, create skilled employment and generate long-term revenue for Alderney.
No decisions have been made regarding any specific development proposals or sites. Any future opportunities identified through this process would be subject to detailed technical, environmental, planning and community consultation and engagement before any decisions are taken.
