With Guernsey Mind’s Sunrise Walk of Hope coming up on Sunday 21 June, the team at event sponsor Gower took a lunchtime stroll in some unfamiliar footwear to encourage signups.
The Sunrise Walk of Hope raises awareness around suicide and supports those affected by loss, and the Gower team decided to take the expression ‘walk a mile in someone else’s shoes’ quite literally to promote the event.
A team of 9 wore everything from sandals to wellies to walk south from town along the seafront on Friday 12 June.
Hannah Hurley from Gower said: “Today was a noteworthy way to raise awareness of the main walk in a weeks’ time. The Sunrise Walk of Hope is a powerful and important event for the local community and a chance to reflect, remember and support one another. It really brings people together and we’re proud to sponsor it. If seeing one of our directors wear a pair of shoes two sizes too small is an incentive for a few people to sign up then it will have been worth it.”
Amanda Hibbs from Guernsey Mind joined the walk and said: “Ahead of the main walk, this was a fun way to highlight Gower’s support and remind everyone that registration is open now for what is a truly meaningful event. Every step taken, today and on Sunday 21, helps raise awareness and enables us to continue providing essential support to those affected by suicide.”
