Welcome back to our series ‘Meet the Entrepreneur’, where we meet the people behind start-ups in the Channel Islands to find out what they’re doing and what makes them tick.

David Greenwood is the founder of EPCI, a Jersey-based consultancy providing fractional and interim operational leadership and transformation delivery services. After more than 20 years in global financial services, including a role as Managing Director at a global bank, he launched EPCI to help organisations access senior operational support when they need it most.

David (pictured) spoke to Channel Eye about building a business focused on clarity, control and momentum, and why demand is growing for flexible leadership expertise.

David, you’ve spent more than two decades in global financial services. What made you decide to launch EPCI now?

After 20 years in large, complex organisations, including time as a Managing Director at a Global Bank, I found myself consistently drawn to the same role: bringing clarity, structure and calm when things were moving fast or off-track.

Over time, I realised that capability isn’t just valuable inside one organisation, it’s needed across many.

The decision to launch EPCI came from conversations with local business leaders facing real challenges. They needed senior operational support but couldn’t justify a permanent role or wait through a long hiring process. EPCI allows me to support those leaders, on their terms, at the moment they need it most.

For readers hearing about EPCI for the first time, how would you describe what you offer?

EPCI is a fractional and interim leadership consultancy focused on operational (COO) and transformation delivery. It’s intentionally senior, hands-on and flexible, giving organisations access to experienced operational leadership exactly when it’s needed.

Alongside my own involvement, EPCI has access to a small network of trusted, highly experienced professionals. This allows the right expertise to be brought in where appropriate, while maintaining a single point of accountability and ensuring delivery remains practical, aligned and outcome-focused.

What excites you most about launching EPCI?

The opportunity to make a difference quickly.

I’ve always valued the moment when teams see a clear path forward, when delivery starts to feel achievable and momentum returns. Being able to bring that to organisations across Jersey is genuinely exciting.

I’m also focused on building long-term relationships. Jersey is a place where trust matters, and I want EPCI to be a partner leaders turn to when things are important, sensitive or time-critical.

Why did you choose the fractional/interim model?

Because it reflects how organisations increasingly operate and its proven.

Leaders don’t always need a full-time COO, transformation lead or large consulting team. Often, they need targeted senior capability for a defined period; someone who can step in, stabilise the situation and move things forward.

Fractional leadership provides:

  • Senior judgement without long-term commitment
  • Flexibility as priorities evolve
  • Faster impact than traditional recruitment
  • Objective, cross-industry perspective
  • True optionality

It’s a model built for pace, complexity and real-world constraints.

What do you hope to achieve for your clients in the first year of EPCI?

Three things:

  1. Clarity: help leaders understand what’s really happening, not what’s assumed
  2. Control: putting in place structure, rhythm and governance
  3. Momentum: enabling confident, consistent delivery and/or operational excellence

If EPCI becomes known for bringing those three things, calmly and consistently, I’ll consider the first year a success.

You’ve lived in Jersey for some time. How does that shape your approach?

Jersey is home. I’ve been here for over 13 years, and I understand the island’s business culture, regulatory expectations and pace. It’s a place where relationships matter, reputation is earned, and direct, honest conversations are valued. That’s exactly how I work and how I want EPCI to be known.

What kind of work are you most looking forward to?

Situations where clarity or momentum is needed quickly. That might be operational alignment, transformation planning, regulatory uplift, or helping a leadership team regain control of a complex programme.

Finally, what do you want business leaders to know about EPCI?

EPCI is built with purpose.

It’s for organisations that value senior judgement, honest partnership and practical delivery. It’s focused on helping leaders create clarity, regain control and build real momentum.

If you’re facing change, growth, regulatory pressure or operational complexity and want a partner who can help you move forward with confidence; EPCI is here for exactly that. If you believe you could benefit from the fractional / interim option, please get in touch.
