Coop Mobile has won the Sustainability Champion Award at the MVNOs World Awards in Amsterdam, an international awards programme for the mobile virtual network operator sector.
The award was presented at the annual MVNOs World conference and recognises mobile operators demonstrating a commitment to sustainable practices, reducing environmental impact and supporting wider industry sustainability initiatives.
Launched in February 2026, Coop Mobile is the Channel Islands’ first mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). The award comes just months after the service went live.
According to the judges, the award recognised Coop Mobile’s digital-first operating model, which includes online self-service, SIM distribution through existing Coop grocery and pharmacy stores, refurbished handset options and SIM cards made from recycled plastic.
The company said these measures are intended to help reduce emissions, minimise electronic waste and support more sustainable consumption.
Coop Mobile is also linked to the Channel Islands Coop membership scheme, allowing members to receive grocery savings alongside their mobile service.
David McGrath, Chief Membership and Marketing Officer for the Channel Islands Coop, said: “Sustainability has been a core focus of Coop Mobile since inception. The model had to align with the Coop’s principles. The launch has been very successful and is delivering value for our customers and for the business. This Award reflects our commitment to sustainable innovation, creating value for our members and delivering ethical products and services for our communities.”
