Jersey’s FCJ School has been awarded a reaccreditation of Gold by UNICEF UK’s Rights Respecting School programme for the second consecutive time.

UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights. The Rights Respecting Schools Award is granted to schools that show commitment to promoting and realising children’s rights and encouraging adults, children and young people to respect the rights of others in school. Gold is the highest accolade given by UNICEF UK and shows a deep and thorough commitment to children’s rights at all levels of school life.

Donna Lenzi, Headteacher of FCJ Primary School, said: “We are incredibly proud to have been re-accredited as a Gold Rights Respecting School. The rights of the child are not simply something we teach about at FCJ; they are part of our daily modus operandi and are woven into the life and spirit of our school community.

“It is inspiring to see how deeply our children understand, champion, and live out these values showing compassion, respect, and leadership in the way they care for one another and stand up for fairness and dignity.

“I would like to thank our incredible staff for their unwavering commitment; our fantastic children, whose voices, kindness, and enthusiasm make our school such a special, and joyful place to be and to our wonderful parents for their steadfast support. This award is a celebration of everyone in our FCJ community, and we are excited to continue building a school where every child feels valued, heard, and empowered.”

The Award recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s planning, policies, and practice. A Rights Respecting School is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted.
