An orthopaedic surgeon at Medical Specialist Group has retired after a career spanning decades in clinical practice and medical education.
Mr Mark Webber stepped down on Tuesday, 5 May, following nine years with the Medical Specialist Group in Guernsey. During his time with the organisation, he became known for his work in shoulder surgery and his contribution to patient care.
He trained in medicine at the University of Manchester and the University of St Andrews before completing orthopaedic training in Fife and the north west of England, including teaching hospitals in Manchester. Prior to moving to Guernsey, he spent 17 years working at consultant level and was also involved in lecturing at the University of Salford and the University of Manchester.
Reflecting on his time on the island, Mr Webber said: “Guernsey and the MSG allowed me to reconnect with truly patient-centred care. I quickly fell in love with the island, its people and the strong sense of camaraderie across the MSG and the Princess Elizabeth Hospital. My time here has been professionally rewarding and personally enriching, and I look forward to my next chapter while remaining part of the island community.”
Dr Michelle Le Cheminant, Chair of the Medical Specialist Group, said: “After nine years of dedicated service, we say a heartfelt farewell to Mark, a talented orthopaedic surgeon whose experience in shoulder surgery has made a real difference to so many of our patients.
“But beyond his clinical skill, it is the person we will miss most. Mark has been a wonderful colleague, bringing warmth, humour and a genuine team spirit to everything he does. He is very much part of our work family, and his retirement leaves a gap that will be felt by all of us. We wish him every happiness in this next chapter.”
