The level of support available through the Better Business Skills Grant has increased for 2026, with eligible businesses now able to claim up to 80% of training costs for applications made in 2026.
This represents a significant improvement on the previous 50/50 funding model, making skills development more accessible and encouraging more organisations to invest in their teams.
Any businesses that have already submitted a Skills Grant application for 2026 will automatically benefit from the increased 80% funding rate, with no further action required.
In 2025, 54 local businesses received Skills Grants totalling £311,210.00 to help develop Jersey’s workforce. With proven results across sectors, this increased funding is planned to further boost the uptake of the Skills Grant in 2026.
The Skills Grant supports a wide range of training, including leadership, management, professional and technical skills. Under the updated 80/20 structure, businesses contribute just 20% of the cost, with the remaining 80% funded through the grant.
Organisations can also apply for up to two Skills Grants per year, enabling them to take a more strategic approach to upskilling and capability building.
Jennie Smith (pictured), Head of Business Support at Jersey Business, said: “Skills are critical to productivity and long-term business success. Increasing the level of support available through the Skills Grant makes it easier for businesses to invest in their people and build the capability they need to grow.”
