Jersey Financial Services Commission will launch a new, modernised Intellectual Property register on 1 August 2026.
When the register launches, the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) will provide fully digital trade mark services, with digital patent and design services to follow shortly afterwards. This phased delivery will create a single, streamlined system for all IP matters in Jersey. From 1 August, applications for patent and design registration must still be submitted to the JFSC, even though digital services for these IP types will be introduced later.
Modernising Jersey’s primary trade mark legislation and introducing a modern IP register will:
- make it quicker and easier for businesses to protect their IP
- support innovation across all sectors
- strengthen Jersey’s international competitiveness
- reduce red tape through clear, digital processes
- deliver meaningful improvements for firms operating across borders
This programme forms an important part of Jersey’s strategic objectives, supporting economic growth, improving customer experience, and embedding a digital‐first approach across the registry. It will also reinforce Jersey’s strong international reputation and align with government priorities to enhance competitiveness.
Deputy Moz Scott (pictured), Assistant Minister for External Relations, welcomed the announcement, saying: “I very much welcome today’s announcement by the Jersey Financial Services Commission on the launch of the modernised Intellectual Property register, planned for the 1st August this year. This is a very important step in modernising Jersey’s Intellectual Property offering and helps deliver an important priority of the Common Strategic Policy: to support the island’s economic wellbeing, by reducing red tape, enhancing opportunities for businesses, and strengthening Jersey’s international reputation.”
Beverley Kent, Executive Director of Registry, said the launch represents an important step forward for Jersey: “Launching the IP register is a significant milestone for Jersey and for the businesses and creators who rely on strong protection for their intellectual property. It’s a great example of how we’re modernising the registry to provide better digital services and clearer processes. By making it easier to protect intellectual property, we’re supporting innovation, encouraging new opportunities for growth and delivering on our commitment to excellent service. We look forward to working closely with industry as we take this step forward.”
