Applications are now open for the Jersey sports organisations to join the 2026/27 Sportin Schools programme.
The programme has received a significant boost, with £95,000 of funding committed for the 2026/27 academic year, reinforcing Jersey Sport’s commitment to expanding opportunities for primary and secondary school students across the island and distributing a total of £1million back into local sport in 2026.
The programme continues to play a vital role in giving more children and young people the opportunity to experience a wider range of sports within the school environment – helping to build confidence, develop skills and inspire lifelong participation.
Over the past two years, the Sportin Schools programme has delivered 21 different sports across 26 primary and one secondary school, introducing activities such as skateboarding, kickboxing and padel alongside more traditional sports. This breadth on offer is central to the programme’s success, ensuring there is something for every child, regardless of their interests or abilities.
Expanding Opportunities for All Ages
Following a successful secondary school pilot with Beaulieu, the programme will continue to expand its reach into secondary schools for the 2026/27 academic year. The pilot demonstrated strong impact in engaging young people at a crucial stage, where participation in physical activity often declines. By offering new and varied sporting experiences during the transition into early teenage years, the programme is helping to retain more young people in sport and physical activity, while strengthening pathways into community sport beyond school.
Jersey Sport is encouraging local sports organisations to apply and be part of the programme, helping to deliver engaging, high-quality sessions in schools across the island.
By increasing the diversity of sports on offer, the programme aims to ensure that every pupil has the chance to find an activity they enjoy – supporting both physical wellbeing and long-term engagement in sport.
A Collaborative Approach for Schools
All Government of Jersey non-fee-paying primary schools and all secondary schools are eligible to take part, receiving fully funded sport delivery for one school term. Jersey Sport coordinates the programme, reducing administrative burden and making it easier for schools to access high-quality coaching and new sporting opportunities.
Schools benefit from exposure to a wide range of sports providers, helping them meet the needs and interests of their pupils while enriching their physical education offer.
