UBS joins forces with Supertri and loca charities to drive inclusion and community spirit in Jersey

UBS Global Wealth Management has announced that as part of its sponsorship of this year’s Supertri League Event in Jersey, it will engage two local charities to help drive community involvement during the event.

Beresford Street Kitchen (BSK), which provides education, training and employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autism, and the Jersey Employment Trust (JET), which helps people with a disability or long-term health condition secure and sustain employment, will work with UBS and Supertri on a series of activations focused on inclusion and skill development during this year’s event.

UBS announced its collaboration with BSK and JET earlier this year, in an effort to raise awareness of the charities and with an aim to increase the firm’s local, social impact commitment.

“We’re very happy to be able to create a link between two great, local charities and a world-class sporting event like Supertri, to help further elevate community involvement in Jersey,” said Tobias Wehrli, Country Head Jersey at UBS Global Wealth Management. “In the past, we’ve seen how this event can bring islanders together in a shared passion for sport, wellness and team spirit, and we’re excited to see what impact BSK and JET’s involvement can bring this time around.”

This year, world-class athletes taking part in the Supertri League Event are invited to the BSK Café to chat with employees about how best to fuel themselves through food and drink ahead of the event. The BSK team will also be catering for Supertri employees during Sunday’s race day.

“It’s fantastic to be part of an event that brings the whole island together and to see our Crew involved in such an exciting international weekend,” said Louisa Lempriere, Community Engagement Manager at BSK. “Our team can’t wait to meet the athletes and welcome them to our café. We might even put them to work in the kitchen!”

Meanwhile, Acorn, the social enterprise of JET, which runs bike refurbishment workshops offering work and training opportunities for those in Jersey with a disability or long-term health condition, will also be involved around the event. The team will have the opportunity to learn from Supertri’s expert bike technicians during a drop-in on the triathlon course for athletes on Saturday, September 20, where bikes can be checked ahead of Sunday’s event. Acorn will also be represented by its squirrel mascots in the fan zone, generating support for athletes.

“Opportunities like this are so valuable for our team,” said Penny Shurmer, Executive Officer at JET. “It’ll be great to be in the fan zone talking to sporting enthusiasts about our bikes and what we do, and we’re proud to stand alongside partners like UBS and Supertri who understand the power of meaningful inclusion. “

“The energy and enthusiasm from UBS, BSK and JET adds an important community layer to the Supertri League Jersey experience,” said Michael D’hulst, CEO and Co-Founder of Supertri. “It’s great to see local partners engaging in ways that highlight the spirit of the event beyond the race itself.”
