Two of Jersey’s social enterprises have come together to provide reliable, balanced meals and meaningful opportunities for families and the community.
Originally inspired by the UK’s Casserole Club, Caring Cooks’ Weekly Meal Service was created more than a decade ago by founder Melissa Nobrega, who recognised the need to support families going through difficult times with freshly prepared, nutritious meals.
Now, Caring Cooks and Beresford Street Kitchen (BSK) have joined forces to deliver the service in a more sustainable and inclusive way, under a new name – The Weekly Social. This collaborative initiative provides balanced, family friendly meals to households across the island, while offering meaningful work experience for BSK’s crew.
Yvonne Corbin (pictured), CEO of Caring Cooks, said: “We know how much pressure many families are under just to put a meal on the table. At the same time, it’s so important to us that our support is dignified and family-oriented. This partnership allows us to continue delivering balanced, child-friendly meals every week while also supporting the inspiring work BSK does in creating and inspiring inclusive workplaces. It really is a perfect fit.”
Gabby Ellmers, CEO of Beresford Street Kitchen, added: “This is exactly the kind of meaningful collaboration we value, giving our Crew the opportunity to contribute directly to the community while gaining skills, confidence and independence ready to move on from BSK when they graduate. It’s great to see two values-driven organisations coming together to make a real difference for our community.
