With a significant focus and increase in native tree planting locally, in the recent past, Guernsey Trees for Life wants to encourage islanders to continue to plant with their annual ‘Give a Tree for Christmas’ campaign.
This is a partnership campaign with local retailer Guernsey Gardens and timed annually to mark the start of the winter tree planting season and also to draw the attention of the community to the importance of the local environment.
Colin Dodd, Committee Member said: “Islanders understand the importance of tree planting for Guernsey. As we do each year, we want to encourage as many people as possible on-island to buy a tree as a present this Christmas they make a wonderful living gift. Our partners Guernsey Gardens Ltd, generously give a 25% discount on all native trees purchased during this month.”
He added: “With our natural habit under continuous pressure it is important to replace and add to existing stock with native trees, as they are far more effective in adding to our local biodiversity.
“Islanders should take this into consideration and ask the experts at Guernsey Gardens for advice on the best trees to buy, thinking about where they will be planted and the surrounding habitat. To claim a discount at Guernsey Gardens Ltd, customers must make reference to the Guernsey Trees for Life campaign ‘Give a Tree for Christmas’”.
Guernsey Gardens has supported the annual initiative for many years, being keen to promote the planting of trees which improves the natural environment and ensures a legacy for future generations.
Mr Dodd said: “’Give a Tree for Christmas’ is not just an original gift idea, but it also helps our environment and the replenishment of our island tree stocks.”
