Channel Islands Adjusters, a locally owned and run firm of loss adjusters, is celebrating twenty years in business.

The long-standing team at Channel Islands Adjusters – led by founders Richard and Julie-anne Headington – have spent the past few months marking their landmark two decades in business with several events and announcements.

At the beginning of the year, the team celebrated the promotion of Ellie Smith to the role of Loss Adjuster, bringing the number of Loss Adjusters in the company’s ranks to four, three of whom are Chartered. This means the Guernsey-based team are the most qualified in the Channel Islands by a long stretch.

It was also a milestone year for Operations Manager Tracy Le Page and Associate Director Josh Smith, who both celebrated ten years as members of the Channel Islands Adjusters team.

Managing Director Richard Headington said it’s been a momentous year for the company in many ways: “Not only have we reached a significant anniversary by celebrating twenty years in business, but we have also lived through the busiest year in the company’s history. As we reach the height of the summer, it’s perhaps difficult to contemplate that we are still dealing with the massive impact of Storm Ciaràn back in November 2023. The level of damage we dealt with at the time was like nothing we have ever experienced, and it is testament to our team that we have come through this landmark year so successfully.”

To celebrate Channel Islands Adjusters’ special anniversary, the team have launched a new website and refreshed the company logo for the occasion, working with local agency Potting Shed to produce an anniversary-themed version of the company’s emblem. Celebrations have included a ‘Big Kids’ themed party for clients and staff and an extra special charity partnership with the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation to coincide with the PPBF’s own 20th anniversary celebrations.

Finance Director Julie-anne Headington said: “As a locally born and bred company, we are proud to play a part in contributing to our island communities and we’re passionate about giving time and financial support to a number of causes close to our hearts. The PPBF is one of those and, to celebrate our joint 20th anniversaries, we have sponsored the charity throughout this year, culminating in buying all nights during the month of August 2024 at all three of the PPBF’s properties via their ‘Buy a Night’ initiative.”

Loss Adjusters work on behalf of insurance firms to make sure that large and complex claims are settled to the satisfaction of both the insurance companies and their policy holders. Richard said that the company’s tag line ‘Because…it happens’ sums up the unpredictability of the team’s work, which encompasses weather damage, fires and flooding and the loss of high-value items. He explained: “The policy holders we meet need our team to be professional and efficient, but empathetic too.

“We often encounter people who have just experienced their own worst nightmare, which could result in them being out of their homes and businesses for months or even years. The fact we’re on the island, or just a short flight or boat journey away, means we can evaluate claims quickly and we understand the local landscape when it comes to remedial works, which helps to make the process quicker and easier for everyone involved.”

As for the company’s work, how do the team remain upbeat when dealing with disasters every day? Julie-anne explained: “There’s no denying there are stressful periods, especially when lots of claims come at once, as with a huge weather event like Storm Ciaràn. Typically, we take it day-by-day and support each other, whilst trying to ensure there is plenty of laughter along the way. It’s got us through the last twenty years, and we hope it will help to see us through many more years to come.”
