Channel Islands Adjusters has announced further growth in its expanding team, as the company celebrates two decades in business.
Ellie Smith, who joined the team in 2022, has been promoted to the role of Loss Adjuster, having recently attained the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters Certificate and the British Damage Management Association Insurance Technician qualification.
Managing Director Richard Headington and wife Julie-anne founded Channel Islands Adjusters twenty years ago and it remains the only locally owned and run firm of Loss Adjusters in the Channel Islands, working on large and high value insurance claims across the Bailiwicks of Guernsey and Jersey.
Richard said: “The past six months has seen an unprecedented level of cases in our 20-year history due to the severe effects of Storm Ciaràn across the Channel Islands. Throughout this time, Ellie has continued to flourish. The fact that she has been conscientious and dedicated enough to study for these complex professional exams during such a busy period, is testament to her professional commitment and competence.”
Under the supervision and guidance of Associate Director Josh Smith, Ellie has excelled in all aspects of her role at Channel Islands Adjusters, with Richard citing her empathetic approach in dealing with policyholders at times of distress a particular skill. Coupled with this, she has shown a keen eye for detail and rigour in adhering to the company’s detailed and comprehensive procedures.
Ellie came to the Loss Adjusting industry with a background in customer service. She said: “When I joined the company two years ago, I couldn’t have imagined that my knowledge and professional development would accelerate at such a pace. Since Storm Ciaran my workload has quadrupled, and I’ve learned how to deal with a plethora of claims. It’s certainly been an incredible challenge and I don’t intend to stop here. I am looking forward to following in the footsteps of the senior team and intend to continue studying with both the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters until I reach chartered status.”
Since Channel Islands Adjusters opened its doors in 2004, the team has achieved twenty-seven qualifications and one of the company’s founding principles is its continued dedication in supporting team members to facilitate their professional development. Managing Director Richard Headington commented: “We are a niche and specialist area of the insurance industry and that makes it even more important that our team is the most qualified in the Channel Islands. We now have four Loss Adjusters, three of whom are chartered, and we have recently expanded the field adjusting team with the appointment of Sam Langmead to the role of Property Claims Technician.”
Sam joins the company with seven years’ experience in dealing with insurance claims, including the surge events following both the collapse of Flybe and the aftermath of Storm Ciaràn. Richard continued: “Sam’s previous experience has proven his suitability to the technical and analytical aspects of dealing with major and complex claims and we are delighted that he is joining our growing team in our 20th anniversary year.”
New recruit Sam added: “Having worked in both the insurer and broking sectors, I have a solid understanding of the claims process from both perspectives, and I am passionate about providing a good service to policyholders, brokers and insurers. I am really excited to be part of a unique and supportive team as I begin my journey in the loss adjusting industry.”
